CARNOUSTIE GOLF LINKS, established in 1842, is located in Carnoustie, Angus, Scotland, however golf is recorded as having been played at Carnoustie as early as in 1527. The original course was of ten holes, crossing and recrossing the Barry Burn, designed by Allan Robertson and assisted by Old Tom Morris. The opening of the coastal railway from Dundee to Arbroath brought an influx of golfers from as far afield as Edinburgh, to play the ancient links. This led to a complete redesign of the course which was extended in 1867 by Old Tom Morris to the 18 holes. Carnoustie is a big natural seaside links, widely considered to be the most difficult golf course in the UK and Ireland. continued..
