CHICAGO GOLF CLUB, established in 1892, is located in Wheaton, Illinois, west of Chicago. Chicago is one of the five founding clubs of the United States Golf Association [USGA] along with ‘The Country Club’, Brookline [1882], ‘Newport Country Club’ [1883], Newport, Rhode Island, ‘Shinnecock Hills Golf Club’ [1891], Southampton, New York and ‘Saint Andrew’s Golf Club’ [1888], Hastings-on-Hudson, New York. In late spring of 1892, Charles Blair Macdonald passed around a hat with 20 or 30 of his friends, who contributed $10 each and Macdonald spent that money in laying out a nine-hole course, about 23 miles (37 km) west of Chicago’s Union Station. continued..
