REAL CLUB VALDERRAMA Established in 1974 is located in San Roque, Cádiz, in the Andalusia region of southern Spain. Valderrama was constructed in 1974 as ‘Sotogrande New’ to the designs of American golf course architect Robert Trent Jones, one of the world’s great golf course architects. The Club remained relatively anonymous until 1984 when the industrialist billionaire, Jaime Ortiz-Patiño, acquired the golf course and committed to bringing the course to a world class level. Robert Trent Jones willingly agreed to come back and redesign his original layout of ten years earlier and the golf course was redesigned and expanded. The club was subsequently re-born as ‘Valderrama’, and by 1999 it was rated the top course in mainland Europe by ‘Golf World magazine’. continued..
