WEST SUSSEX GOLF CLUB Established in 1930 is located at Wiggonholt near Pulborough, in West Sussex, England. Commander George Hillyard, who moved down to Sussex from Leicestershire, first conceived the idea of a golf club on sandy farmland at Wiggonholt. His house overlooked an area of heather and marsh which he thought would make an idyllic setting for a natural course. The land was subsequently purchased by the Ravenscroft and Henderson families and then leased to the newly formed West Sussex Golf Club. A company called ‘Links and Courses’ were commissioned to design and build the course, where Sir Guy Campbell, Major C.K. Hutchison and Colonel S.V. Hotchkin were the principle directors. These three architects created one of the most natural and aesthetically pleasing golf courses in England. continued..
