Quick-thinking staff and firefighters formed a chain of people to save many priceless historical artifacts, including replica Ryder Cup and PGA Championship trophies, from the flames. The membership voted to rebuild the clubhouse to faithfully replicate the original 1922 design reopening in 2026”.

OAKLAND HILLS COUNTRY CLUB, established in 1916, is located in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, USA. In 1916, two Ford Motor Company executives, Joseph Mack and Norval Hawkins bought a parcel of farmland on Maple Road, 15 miles (24 km) northwest of Detroit in Bloomfield Hills and construction of the new course began in 1917. One hundred-forty memberships were sold at $250 each and the South Course of Oakland Hills was formally opened on July 13, 1918. The new club enjoyed prestige because its designer Donald Ross was the foremost golf course architect of his day and its first club professional was U.S. Open champion Walter Hagen. continued..
