PARAPARAUMU BEACH GOLF CLUB Established in 1949 is located in Paraparaumu, Wellington, New Zealand. The Club is situated on the Kapiti Coast, which is approximately 40 miles to the north of Wellington as the crow flies. Former Australian Open champion Alex Russell designed the course in 1949 and for many years, Paraparaumu Beach has enjoyed the title of the ‘best links course in New Zealand’. Russell won the Australian Open in 1924, but his real impact on the golf world was as a result of the five weeks he spent with Alister MacKenzie during the construction of the West Course at Royal Melbourne. This was a quick learning curve where Russell grasped the strategic principles that the great Alister MacKenzie employs which helped him enormously in his future golf course designs. continued..
