SOUTHERN HILLS COUNTRY CLUB, established in 1935, is located in Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA and was founded by a group of local businessmen on land donated by multi-millionaire oilman Waite Phillips during the Great Depression. Golf course construction during the Great Depression had ground practically to a halt but the club’s three main founders, Bill Warren, Cecil Canary and Waite Phillips had enough to put the necessary resources together and give valuable employment to enough people to get the club going. They commissioned Perry Maxwell, a local Oklahoman and a founding member of the American Society of Golf Course Architects to design the course. continued..
