THE COUNTRY CLUB, established in 1882, is located in Brookline, Massachusetts, USA and is one of the oldest country clubs in the United States. The original club was focused on horseback-riding and other outdoor activities and the golf course was not built until 1893. For several years there were conflicts between golfers and other club members over land use where the golf course overlapped the racetrack. The golf course itself grew in several stages, and so is not the result of any one architect. The first six holes were laid out by three club members in 1893. Scotsman Willie Campbell became the Club’s first golf professional in 1894 and expanded the course to nine holes. continued..
