Originally routed by Willie Locke and A.V. Macan in 1926, the course was significantly enhanced in 1928 by the legendary Alister MacKenzie who redesigned the bunkering and select greens”.

THE CALIFORNIA GOLF CLUB OF SAN FRANCISCO OR ‘CAL CLUB’, established in 1918, was originally located in Ingleside, southwest of San Francisco but moved down the Peninsula in 1924 after being unable to secure a long term lease for the land from the owners, ‘The Spring Valley Water Company’. The club purchased 425 acres of what was part of the original Baden Farm and commissioned Scotsman, Willie Locke to design the course on the new site but an Irishman Arthur Vernon Macan replaced him before work started. Alistair Mc Kenzie was further commissioned in 1927 to address shortfalls in the bunkering and following that the club’s reputation soared. continued..
